Erica's Poem

This is the first year we participated in Reflections.  This begins as a school-wide competition (and moves on to state) and there are many categories including, literature, 3D art, dance, music, drama, etc.  It is completely voluntary.  Erica happened to be home sick for an entire week which led to boredom...which led to her writing a beautiful poem for Reflections.  Her poem won first place in the literature category. The theme was "diversity means..."  Erica's poem is moving on to the state-wide competition!  It was fun to see her cheered and high-fived by the crowd.  She was also asked to read the poem to the entire school!

A proud little girl:

Erica reading her poem:

We’re Each…

We’re each unique and special,
We all fit in somewhere,
We have a place on earth,
We have a reason why we’re here.

We’re each a piece of string,
To be woven on the loom,
In a breathtaking pattern,
Keeping us abloom.

We’re each a leaf on a tree,
Hanging from each limb,
Soaking up the sunlight,
Wanting to start again.

We’re each a shade of color,
On an artist’s palette,
To be painted all together,
In a masterpiece of merit.

We're each important and different,
Joining far and wide,
To gather all together,
And walk through life side by side.
