I need to take some pictures!! I've been wanting to write a decent update, but won't do it without pictures. So I'm writing a comment-generating post instead. ;)
We are members of Costco and I keep finding things there that are a really great deal -- and taste delicious (except in the case of the dishwashing soap). I've thought that if we all share our Costco finds with each other, it will make it worth the twenty minute drive, $8 in gas, and Jacob screaming through the check-out to get there. If you have an item or ten that you like at Costco, please post a comment!
- Frozen spinach ravioli (see sidebar)
- Refrigerated flautas - put melted cheese on top and dip in salsa - yummy!
- Stretch Island fruit leather - 100% fruit and one box lasts a long time
- Kirkland's mixed nuts - a big tub of yummy nuts, w/out peanuts
- A bag of Costco rolls - we usually freeze half the bag and the other half disappears in a day.
- ActionPacs dishwashing soap (see sidebar)
- Kirkland baby wipes - I like them much more than Pampers or Huggies wipes
- Broccoli salad w/dressing (in the cavelike refrigerated section, but they don't actually have this at our Costco)
- HUGE pack of 12x12 cardstock with different colors on each side. Not sure if they still sell this, but it's great for projects. It does show a little white if folded in a tight crease. But I love it for cards and scrapbooking - you can match any paper.
Did I mention the polish sausage, yummy pizza (a little too much cheese for my taste), and that I can feed me and my kids for $5.50 (including dessert)? That's really why I like Costco so much! (If you aren't a member, I've read that you can still enter Costco for the hot food up in the front - hot dogs, fro-yo, pizza, etc) or prescriptions -- is this true?)

I'm a Costco Addict!! Although my membership just ran out in June and I'm withholding from going this month since I call it the $100 store. I seriously can't walk out without spending that much!
ReplyDeleteLOVE those Action Packs dish soap and I'm on my last few!
-I just tried these fruit chips by Mrs. Mays (they come in yummy flavors like apple and peach).
- Window cleaner. Costco has the best window cleaner it comes in a 3 pack of spray cans.
-Chinese chicken salad pack. Comes in a 2 pack and I can eat it for lunch for a couple of days. Love it!
Well I could go on and on about all the things I love about Costco. And don't get me started on the Costco Home Store (they only have one in Washington and one in Arizona). If I had money to spend - it would be there!
Great finds! I have heard that you can still do optometry and pharmacy stuff w/o a membership
ReplyDelete(but they don't take Medicaid, for those that use it). But I'm pretty sure that if you can't buy the food unless you have a membership, or if you have a guest pass ypu can buy it but at a 10% extra cost or something.
I do a lot of baking, so the baking powder, sugar, chocolate ship and flour are worth it. The peanut butter is a good deal as well. I'm still finding out what there is to offer.
I'm such a fan of Costco I have an entire blog that I write just about how great it is. It's got all of my favorites, and things I would recommend against too. My favorite buy is some bookcases that are spectacular for just $199.99! Real wood and everything. So, check out my manifestation of my addiction at AddictedToCostco.com.
ReplyDeleteHappy shopping!
Like I said in one of my blogs, Costco is truly my second home. Our favorites include their Dried Mangos, Inn Keepers Bread(it's a 3# loaf...but soo soo yummy!), muffins.. really the list could go on. Actually, I'm headed to Costco right now.. how ironic!!
ReplyDeleteWe have to drive 3 hours to get to our Costco, so I'm jealous that you have one only 20 min away! Our absolute FAVS are the dried mangos (can't live without those), the Rib Eye steaks are to die for. They are so thick, you can butterfly them and get twice as many that comes out to be an amazing price. YUM. I also love the fruit leather and we use their Kirkland detergent for washing our clothes. One of those buckets lasts forever! I also love their huge bottles of Ranch dressing mix. We eat homemade ranch all the time so that is MUST! They also have great deals on their frozen individually packed chicken breasts. We also buy their big blocks of cheese. Anyway, those are a few of our favs :o)
ReplyDeleteWe have loved the ravioli. Also great as a side dish. I was wondering where that broccoli salad was. which costco do you go to?
ReplyDeleteWe are Costco lovers as well!
ReplyDelete-Books-really good deal at Costco
-Sometimes I find good deals on clothes there too, like nice brand swim suits for $15-20, pjs for Julia etc..
-Uncooked tortillas. Everyone should try these! You will never go back to pre-cooked tortillas ever! They cost like $4 for 50 of them!
-Toilet paper
-Some produce, like carrots, onions, potatoes, peppers. (This is stuff that stays good for a long time.)
-Electronics (even though,I would always check out Best Buy as well)
-Shampoo, conditioner, lotions, soap, you name it...
-Three pack individually wrapped pork roasts. You can cook them in the slow cooker and have pulled pork sandwitches.
i am a huge fan of the uncooked tortillas and the new basil tomatoe pizza they make is only 10 dollars and it's really good. sometimes jon and i like to go to costco on our dates to look around. sad...but true!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy going to Costco -- when it's not too crowded! (sadly, this doesn't happen too often, seeing as the Costco a few minutes from my house is right by a big mall. Oh, and I live in a densely populated city and can't go during weekdays, which may have something to do with it!)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the ActionPacs -- I meant to tell you about those when you first had a dishwasher, but I guess I forgot. I think they are great!!
Some other things I like at Costco:
--Spinach/Feta Phyllo Triangle frozen things (can't remember the exact name). The ravioli sounds good too...I'll have to look for that next time.
--I use cleaning supplies from Costco...the advantage for me is I don't have to buy them as often and they work great.
--I periodically buy a bag of frozen chicken tenderloins or breasts - those last a while. (we used to do this in college also...I love my George Forman grill!)
--Lately, I have bought milk at Costco because if the dates are good (and they usually are very good) I can get milk for about $1 per gallon cheaper than most grocery stores in the DC area. I don't go out of my way to do this, but if I am nearby, I will.
--I like using their book, DVD/CD, video game, gift card aisles for presents. Most of the time they have some good prices.
--Last week, I was in Costco and found some shorts/capris. I needed these, so it was a good find. I had a search through the piles a little, but the prices were great.
I have not used the pharmacy, but I just used the optical center and I was pleasantly surprised. They had a very decent collection and good prices. I had to wait a few days, but that was not a problem.
If my Costco had a gas station I would use it -- I do when I'm in MI!
Have a good one! I'm excited to see what everyone else likes at Costco.
I love Costco too. One of our favorite splurges is to buy the muffins. We always cut them in half when we get home and wrap the halves in plastic wrap. Then you can freeze them and just pull out a few at a time from the freezer. A half muffin is a much more reasonable serving than a whole one.
ReplyDeleteIn reality, we actually once managed to eat an entire package of muffins in like two days, so that's possible too!
Wow, when I have more time I'll have to look at more of the comments.
ReplyDeleteWe really like the Orange Chicken and the Cinnamon Rolls - they rival Cinnabon's! We actually really like their Yoplait Yogurt (Light) as well.
Now that we're in the military, we get SUPER cheap food prices at our commissary. But Costco beats some of the prices here. The 4-pack of butter is a great deal (you can just freeze what you don't use. We also like getting diapers and wipes. And John loves this weird "pub mix" stuff that has pretzels and bagel chips and Japanese crackers. Thanks for your suggestions-we'll have to try the ravioli next time we go.
ReplyDeleteWe love Costco, we are also about 20 minutes away so try to make a trip about once a month.
ReplyDelete*Like Julie we love the wipes and spinach ravioli
*Their Wheat bread and sour dough bread.
*A huge 2-pack of tortillas for only a couple of dollars-we freeze half.
*baby formula which compares to similac and enfamil but is quite a bit cheaper.
*Paper towels and toilet paper
*The frozen Kirtland brand Salmon-it comes with individually wrapped salmon filets, this is about the only fish we eat(and I usually don't like fish)
*Their organic frozen broccoli-we eat tons of broccoli and this is so cheap and lasts forever, it comes with a bunch of smaller individual packets inside and always tastes fresh-I never buy broccoli at the grocery store anymore.
*Also, when we lived in Utah-gas was always the cheapest at Costco-it isn't like that in Ohio :(
1. Kirkland diapers: they run a touch bigger than their counterparts, so we could stay in size 4 a little longer and get more diapers for our buck.
ReplyDelete2. Tillamook cheese loaves, except of course where I live in Maryland...
3. Huge packs of glue sticks great for crafting, kid parties, elementary school...
4. Great prices on Gatorade.
5. Individual packaged chicken breasts in tear off packs--need I say more?
6. Kirkland cleaning wipes, especially the one with the orange top that has some sort of grit embedded in the wipe--these clean like no other, including marker/crayon off the Little Tykes plastic toys... Haven't found anything similar anywhere else yet.
7. Super prices on salmon that tastes great (according to the peanut gallery).
8. Cheapest place to buy organic lowfat milk, hands down.
Okay, okay, I'll stop with this last remark--I do almost all of my grocery shopping at costco now...
i LOVE the produce - it's the best thing to organic because it's so cheap...and some things are organic! i love the different ideas on the comments - i'm going to have to try out some of the suggestions. great post idea! thanks!
