Oregon Coast: Part 2 - Cape Perpetua

We had the kids do "reports" before our trip so they could learn about the history of Oregon, what animals to watch for, and what they wanted to do while we were there. Robby kept talking about wanting to see Cape Perpetua. He told us about a 500-yr-old spruce tree, a lighthouse, tide pools, and a look-out point at the top. Our first day we ventured to Cape Perpetua at low tide so we could glimpse those tide pools.

Let me just say -- if you could visit only 2 places on the Oregon Coast, Cape Perpetua and Yaquina Head should be those places! It was beautiful, well-maintained, and had stunning views.

Here I am in 2 pictures, for posterity.
 21 weeks pregnant

It was a really windy day.

The boys hiked with Rob up to the giant 500-yr-old spruce tree. Erica and I stayed in the visitor center and did jigsaw puzzles.
This tree is about as wide across as our mini-van! Pictures can't capture the size.
It is over 500 years old -- that's around the time that Columbus sailed across the ocean.

The tree grew out of a log and then the log disintegrated, leaving behind the root system. So you can actually climb down in the roots!
Fungus along the trail. Love the expressions.
