Impatient

With all 3 of my other babies, I never wanted to know the gender of the baby. We did find out with the first two (Rob really wanted to know), but with Jacob I had good arguments. We already had all of the stuff for a boy and a girl. But the main reason was because I have c-sections and can't hold the baby immediately after it is born - it makes the delivery a little (just a little) anti-climatic. SO, I had this idea that if they were to yell "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!," it would give me something to look forward to. I convinced Rob that we should be surprised with Jacob.

Funny story: We had an ultrasound one week before Jacob's delivery. Rob was still dying to know the gender and I was still adamantly opposed. Rob asked the technician if she could tell him the gender without letting me know. They stepped into the hallway and had a private conference about our baby. That entire week, Rob gave absolutely no hints. I was so convinced it was a girl and kept alluding to that fact. Delivery day came...the baby was born, but whether because Rob already knew the gender (and I'm sure it was written on my chart) or because they needed to whisk our baby to the NICU because of low oxygen levels, no one told me the gender. I finally asked, "Can someone please tell me whether it's a boy or girl?" Someone said it was a boy and I was shocked. But the surprise wasn't all I thought it would be. =)

This time? I'm impatient! I want to know the gender more than I've ever wanted to know anything! Partly because I'm at a different stage of life, partly because we have NO baby clothes/blankets/etc, partly because I want my kids to know, and partly because it will make this seem so much more real. So guess what? I'm paying $45 for an early ultrasound so I can find out (assuming the baby cooperates) at 16 weeks. That's less than THREE weeks from today!!

Best $45 ever spent.
