Angry Birds in Paris - an Opera

Robby has a fantastic 3rd grade teacher. Her name is Mrs. Lee. Erica was lucky enough to have her as well. Mrs. Lee loves music - maybe even more than I do. :) She plays the cello, piano, and sings (and probably a lot more I don't know about). She has a piano in her classroom and often breaks into song. Robby comes home singing a new song or diddy weekly. He loves music even more now that he's had Mrs. Lee.

Mrs. Lee is the only teacher in our school that puts together a class opera. The opera is anticipated by all children (and parents!) in the school, but especially by her students. How she makes all of the extra time in class to do this is pretty much miraculous.

The best part? The KIDS write the opera! They come up with the idea, create the melodies (!), write the words to the music, create the scenery, and practice like crazy. You can read more about this program here. By the time of the performance, the kids know every party inside and out. And so do their parents and siblings. =) If I were in charge, I'd have a hard time letting the kids imaginations go wild. :)
A piano score is created based off of the children's melodies and finally it was time for the curtain to rise. Angry Birds in Paris!

Robby's picture was chosen to be featured in the program. He was pretty proud.

Robby was an "opera" man. They had the idea to hold an opera within the opera. The opera stars steal the score to the music they hear the Happy Birds singing, which makes the birds Angry. It was a cute story and of course, had a happy ending (few!).

This is the class all hugging Mrs. Lee after the show. Did I mention what an awesome teacher she is? I'm hoping Erica got a better picture because that's her in the purple shirt. :)

Thanks to Mrs. Lee for a great year and a wonderful opera!!
