A Puppy

When I married Rob, I knew we'd have a dog one day.  He grew up with the most amazing dog that lived to be TWENTY-ONE years old! I grew up with no pets. Well...my step-sister once had a hamster, I had 3 hermit crabs (until one died and then we let them go in the ocean), we had a lost-and-found kitten for a week until it got really sick and died, and we had a blue heeler mix puppy for a few weeks until it chewed up our trampoline and we decided to give it to people who owned a farm so it could run. You can see why I was a bit hesitant about getting a dog.

Rentals, school, and family housing apartments bought me some time. Then we needed to fix our gates so our backyard was fenced in. Then I started a garden, which bought me one more year. Now I'm officially out of excuses. I've always been a bit nervous about getting a dog.

Until I held HER:

She is a cockapoo that will come home the first or second week in March. I know training a puppy will be hard work, but I know I can do hard things. She'll need a lot of time and patience...what part of raising a family doesn't require time and patience? Isn't she sweet? Of the puppies I held, she is the only one that didn't tremble in my hands. She just settled right in like she was meant to be there.

Guess what? My brother's fam is buying our puppy's brother! They live 3 blocks away, so she'll have a friend. Here is the brother puppy with the cutest star on his forehead:

Am I ready for a puppy? Let's just say I'm glad I have a month to prepare. Although I do think it's baffling that if she is healthy, I could have this dog until I'm 50!

Touche to my neighbor that was talking to me on the first day my youngest started kindergarten. I was so sad that day. She told me that when your youngest starts kindergarten, it's time for another baby or a dog.

Here's to our new puppy...

  1. We had our puppy for 4 months before I got a really bad allergy to her (Hives anywhere that she licked) ugghh. Anyways it was hard but not impossible. The other thing that made it hard for me was that when we got her I was about 3 weeks pregnant, and then 2 weeks later I was made RS president. Soooo as long as you are at a good time in your life to really dedicate to a puppy it should be fabulous. Svea still talks about "pepper" and misses her a ton. You will love your dog I'm sure of it. (FYI)You might want to invest in a carpet cleaner :)

  2. Touché! Haha. I have always wanted a dog but I really scared to since I have never had one. Luckily the breed we like only lives 7-8 years (am I a bad person for feeling that way?) because once we get it, I would feel too guilty to get rid of it. Still have a few years before we get that perfect yard though. Good luck!
