I randomly need babysitters for an hour here, an hour there - especially during my 4 hour work shifts. My friend was involved in a babysitting co-op and I decided to start my own. Then another friend recommended this (FREE!) website:
My friends and I started a group and it has been a Godsend. Literally. The site keeps track of all your credits (each one is worth 15 minutes of babysitting) and sends an email to all members of the group each time a babysitter is needed. You then click a button if you are available. Then the person needing a babysitter gets a list of all the people who can babysit and they anonymously pick a babysitter. To join the group, moms must be recommended by at least two other moms in the group. That way it feels safe. Plus I can choose who I want to babysit - which means someone in my complex on the days I'm working. It works like clockwork!
I've noticed people are starting to use it for evenings as well. What a fabulous idea.
Thanks to the creators and moderators of http://www.babysitterexchange.com/ for creating this site and making it FREE and AVAILABLE!

I was just reading about this sort of thing in a parenting magazine but I have to admit it still makes me a little nervous! Keep me posted on how you like it.
ReplyDeleteJulie,
ReplyDeleteThis is Melissa (Blakely) Sanders from BYU! I found you! I found Margie in the Blogging world a little while ago and today I noticed a link to your blog on hers. You have such beautiful kids and Erica looks so much like you! How are you? It is so fun to see your family and catch up through your blog. Is your husband at UW? I went to high school in Kent, WA. Anyway - it's fun to see you! Talk to you soon,
Melissa
That is great that you can have people you trust, etc. We do a rotation with James' siblings here--every other Friday night is date night. It would be nice during the day sometimes to have a couple hours here and there (without feeling like I'm exhausting my resources :) But I am all about the swaps!
ReplyDeleteAbbey told me about this, and it is a fabulous idea! Thanks for the link :)
