OUR BABY IS ONE!!!

Jacob had a rocky beginning...NICU for a week because of low oxygen. While there, they thought something might be wrong with his bowels, so he was hooked up to an IV in his hand or the top of his head, oxygen tubes, and a feeding tube up his nose. Since I couldn't walk, we didn't see each other much that first week. When he was able to join me at home, I couldn't carry him or hold him much...then he starting losing weight (more than the typical newborn weight loss), so we had to feed him every two hours. After that, he was colicky for about five months. WOW!

All that being said, he is one of the happiest, spunkiest, smiley one year olds that I've ever seen. He is SO much fun! We are always talking about how much joy he adds to our lives. When Jacob is in the room, the four of us are smiling with him. When Jacob laughs, you never want him to stop! When he tastes new foods, bobs his head to the music, pulls all the books off the bookshelves, and tries to figure out the musical toys, he is so funny to watch. Even when he wakes up at 5:30 in the morning, you can't help but love this kid!!

For Jacob's birthday, I called around town to find a grocery store that offers a free birthday cake for one-year-olds. After calling about five stores, I lucked out with Albertsons. It was an 8-inch cake that they personalized - it was perfect for our family.

Jacob carefully picked tiny pieces and put them in his mouth. He's usually quite the messy eater, so I was surprised:

This picture cracks me up. "PLEASE don't make me eat anymore!" This was after about four bites. :)
Jacob sporting his new toy walker/bike. Thanks for the recommendations -- he LOVES this and everytime he walks with it, he has a huge grin.
Opening his other gift. After all, how many gifts does a one-year-old need?
Playing with his new musical toy piggy bank. Rob was a little freaked out that I bought our son a bright pink pig to play with, but I have to say this toy has been a hit as well. (I like it too...but shhh...)
Jacob trying to take a first step...he hasn't made it past the one step stage:
We discovered Jacob was afraid of these huge dinosaurs of Robby's...so we put them to good use. Who needs a guard dog?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JACOB!! WE ARE SO BLESSED TO HAVE YOU!!
