This post is a little more serious than the last. I guess I'm in a serious mood. As we prepare for Easter, I have been pondering the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Atonement. I have seen a lot of family and friends experience major heartache and hardships in their lives. I've also seen a lot of miracles. Rob read me this quote from President Hinckley as he was preparing his home teaching message. I've re-read it about twenty times since then. It is so applicable for all of us and I wanted to share it with you. Even during the times when we don't understand why bad things are happening, there is hope in Christ.
"We know not all that lies ahead of us. We live in a world of uncertainty. For some, there will be great accomplishment. For others, disappointment. For some, much of rejoicing and gladness, good health, and gracious living. For others, perhaps sickness and a measure of sorrow. We do not know. But one thing we do know. Like the Polar Star in the heavens, regardless of what the future holds, there stands the Redeemer of the world, the Son of God, certain and sure as the anchor of our immortal lives. He is the rock of our salvation, our strength, our comfort, the very focus of our faith.
In sunshine and in shadow we look to Him, and He is there to assure and smile upon us."
-President Gordon B. Hinckley, March 2008, Ensign (LDS church magazine) - I'm going to miss that man!!
I hope you have a wonderful Easter this Sunday. Rob is speaking in our church that day and I am so excited to here him share his thoughts about Christ. It's also Robby's fourth birthday, so it will be extra special for our family!
Thanks! This was an awesome post.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I we are speaking on Sunday, also. Good luck!! I am going to use this quote. Thanks for helping me write part of my talk!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great quote. I really miss President Hinckley. He had such a way with words and could convey his love for us so well. I can't belive Robby is 4. Has it been that long already? I remember seeing him at the hospital. Have a great Easter!
ReplyDeleteThat was my favorite quote from the First Presidency message this month.
ReplyDeleteI seriously don't know how people who don't believe in Christ make it through life sometimes!
I am looking forward to hearing Rob's talk on Sunday!
I have been thinking lately of how amazing it is that people can be happy at all in a world like ours. We really take our knowledge for granted sometimes.
