Have you ever read the Berenstain Bears books? My kids love them, just like I did as a kid. Luckily they inherited at least thirty of my BB books, which we read over and over. I like them as a parent because of the lessons they always teach about families and getting along. I often find myself saying, "You sound like Sister Bear when she gets the gimmies" or "that's what the cubs did when they forgot their manners."
We decided to follow the bear family's example and have "no TV for a week." I think that this affects me as the mom more than the kids, especially when I need time to shower. The week is now up and it was pretty much a success. We played outside more and the kids were better behaved. But instead of learning a great lesson like the Berenstain Bears did (discovering that the TV was not so fun after all), I find myself relieved that I can turn it on again! And the first thing the kids did this morning was ask me if the week was over and could they watch just one show. I'm proud of myself for following Mama bear's example and convincing them to play with Play Dough instead.
Mama Bear is my hero. :)

Here are some pictures from home this week:

I'm with you, tv can be a beautiful thing...just in moderation! We did the no tv thing for a while...actually about 3 weeks, but I was just going INSANE, so we decided to bring it back in moderation and now life is beautiful...especially when I want to take a shower or make dinner! Your kids are adorable as always. Thanks for keeping us updated!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on the No TV week! We love the Berenstein Bears here at our house, too. :) Your hair looks cute, Julie!
ReplyDeletemama bear might be your hero, but you are mine! we go a couple of days without TV, but never as long as a week! i can't believe how big jacob is getting. let's plan on getting together. when is rob off of school?
ReplyDeleteHi! This is Rebecca, I found your blog through Catherine. Jacob is so cute. Isn't that such a fun age?
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pics! Now that I know potty training is training for me and not Cubby, I'm starting to see a pattern--the lessons from the BBears are for US?? Who knew!? My world has been shaken--I don't know what to believe anymore!
ReplyDeleteI'm the hypocrite mom who just doesn't let him see me on the computer or watching tv...but oh how I spend the hours...
We did no TV for a week too. It was HARD for me, almost as hard for Brynn who's totally addicted. But in the end, they (esp Brynn) didn't want to watch as much as before. And we were used to finding other things to do, especially as it was spring and the good weather had finally come. I don't think I would do something like that in the winter, esp in Michigan. It would kill us all... :) Besides, how would I shower?
